What Does Kratom Feel Like?

Kratom is known for its powerful medicinal properties. Kratom produces various effects based on the vein, the amount taken, and other individual factors. If you’re new to Kratom, you might want a deeper understanding of what it feels like before you embark on your Kratom journey.

In this article, you’ll learn:

What is Kratom like?

Depending on the Kratom’s purity, the way it’s processed, and the amount you take, the effects you feel will differ. If you’re wondering—how does Kratom make you feel—it’s useful to separate it into two main categories:

Stimulant-like effects

At a low dose and depending on the strain, Kratom tends to create stimulant-like effects. White and Green strains will be more helpful for energy and focus. Stimulants increase the levels of catecholamines, which are a family of brain chemicals that includes dopamine and norepinephrine.

By increasing the amount of these chemicals being released in the brain, taking small amounts of Kratom is similar to other stimulant-like products like adderall. The overall feelings reported are an increase in energy and alertness, an elevated mood, faster heart rate, and potentially a suppressed appetite. This is because the rate of metabolism increases alongside these stimulant-like neurological pathways.

Sedative Effects

With moderate to high doses and dependent on the strain, opioids are known to release chemicals that relax the body. Red strains of Kratom, which are known to be more sedating, and moderate to high amounts of kratom release chemicals that change the way your brain and nervous system identify pain in a way that dulls and sedates.

If you take a medium to large dose of Kratom, you can expect to experience pain relief, calmness, sleepiness, a lowered heart rate, and relaxation.

Strains & Veins: What does Kratom feel like?

The way that Kratom feels differs depending on the strain and vein you consume. Different strains of Kratom come from the various locations it’s grown. Years of growth in a certain climate will inevitably affect the Kratom and therefore, the effects felt from consuming it.

The common feelings across all strains and veins include stimulant-like and euphoric sensations. The differences that appear across the different types of Kratom include:

Thai Kratom

Thai Kratom is one of the most popular strains of Kratom due to its unique potent properties. Thai Kratom is similar to other green strains of Kratom but differs in origin.

Green and White veins of Thai Kratom may produce feelings of euphoria. Red has also been reported to help reduce feelings of pain.

Maeng Da Kratom

Maeng Da Kratom is another one of the more potent strains of Kratom available, usually a blend of what the farmers think are the strongest leaves. It stands for “Pimp’s Grade,” in Thai—a name used for the strongest Kratom strains. In low doses, Maeng Da may have stimulant effects and is thought to boost mood and reduce feelings of anxiety. In higher doses, Maeng Da can be very calming, which can also help control feelings of anxiety and reduce pain.

Chocolate Kratom

Chocolate Kratom is a fermented Red Kratom strain that is known for its strong sedative and analgesic effects.

Chocolate Kratom was given its name due to its similar color to dark chocolate, and does not contain cocoa products.

Bali Kratom

This strain is reported to be one of the strongest for feelings of pain relief. Someone taking Kratom for the first time can therefore expect to feel euphoria, mellowness, and a heightened sense of well-being.

Indo Kratom

Indo Kratom is one of the most versatile strains of Kratom and provides almost immediate effects, unlike other strains. Indo Kratom may produce feelings of relaxation and peacefulness, while also containing mood-boosting qualities. This means it may also help with concentration.

Borneo Kratom

Borneo Kratom is similar to Bali Kratom but is grown in Borneo, making it slightly different. This strain of Kratom is considered one of the most relaxing strains and has been reported to evoke feelings of sedation and euphoric sensations. This strain can offer powerful pain relief.

How does Kratom affect the brain?

Kratom’s chemical properties have varied effects on the brain. The main chemical found in Kratom—mitragynine—has a complex chemical interaction with the brain. It stimulates opioid receptors and interacts with serotonin, the “feel-good” chemical, and norepinephrine, a stress hormone.

7-Hydroxymitragynine, an alkaloid from the plant Mitragyna speciosa. is also found in raw Kratom and is produced as the body metabolizes mitragynine.

The way these chemicals metabolize with the human body contributes to the effects of Kratom, like pain relief with high doses, or increasing energy and alertness with low doses.
