Kratom or Mitragyna Speciosa is quickly becoming one of the most sought after natural alternatives to traditional western medicine for a long list of ailments. And much like anything else we consume, Kratom has a shelf life. As an organic compound the typical length of time you have before your Kratom begins to lose its potency and freshness is roughly about 3 month. So what can be done to lengthen this amount of time? Is freezing Kratom the answer to this?
Prolonging the Shelf Life of Kratom with Freezing
If the average shelf life of Kratom stored correctly at room temperature is 3 months then how do we go about lengthening that time to as long as possible? Kratom users have reported that freezing Kratom can take your shelf life from the standard 3 months all the way up to a year. So how do we go about doing that?
How Freezing Kratom Works
Kratom is made up of the key alkaloids mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine. When Kratom is frozen the plant cells undergo a process called lysis which helps the alkaloids be released and actually intensify their effects. So freezing Kratom not only prolongs the shelf life, but also makes the effects stronger allowing you to use lower amounts to achieve the same effects. There is also an additional, albeit more complex method of freezing Kratom that has been reported to increase the potency even more called the Red Bubble Technique.
How to Freeze Kratom
For maximum freshness seal your Kratom in a vacuum sealed bag. It is important to note that you should make sure to allow your Kratom to come to room temperature before opening the container in order to avoid unnecessary humidity, which can affect the Kratoms potency and freshness. Freezing your Kratom like this should allow you to keep it at full potency, if not more for up to 12 months.
