Akuamma vs. Kratom
More and more individuals seek natural alternatives to Western medicine; two options that stand out in popularity are akuamma and kratom. So what exactly are they, and what are their differences? So here we go, akuamma vs. kratom.
What is akuamma?
Akuamma, or vincamajordine or picralima nitida, is a tree found all over the Ivory Coast, Nigeria and Ghana. The seeds found in the fruit of these tropical trees make them famous, as they are rich in the alkaloid akuammine, a potent indole alkaloid. West Africans have used these seeds for centuries to treat many ailments medicinally.
Bitter to taste, people eat whole seeds or ground them into powder. Much like kratom, akuamma is a tall tropical tree harvested in the wild, known for being a solid alternative to Western medicine. Its benefits are very similar to kratom, ranging from its reported analgesic properties and muscle-relaxing abilities to an excellent anti-diarrhea alternative to over-the-counter options. Akuamma provides help with anxiety symptoms and with symptoms of opioid withdrawal. So, what sets akuamma and kratom apart?
What is kratom?
Kratom (or Mitragyna Speciosa) is a tropical evergreen tree of the coffee plant family. Grown and harvested in Southeast Asian jungles, it has been used for centuries as a worker’s aid and for medicinal purposes. The leaves of this tropical tree are consumed for medicinal benefits. They contain the main alkaloids, Mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine, both known to interact with opioid receptors in the brain. Reportedly, it often results in relief from pain, increased energy and focus and even increased pleasure.
Kratom strains break down into color families; the color of the leaf vein identifies each color. Each strain possesses its unique benefits. Five prominent color families exist: green, red, white, yellow and brown. Much like akuamma, kratom’s popularity continues to grow because of its reported benefits: relief from anxiety symptoms, energy production, boosted mood, some solid soothing properties, improved focus and assistance with opioid withdrawal symptoms. So, overall, these two natural supplements, akuamma and kratom, have many similarities. Akuamma has a much milder effect than kratom. The effects of akuamma last a bit longer. So it comes down to personal choice and the availability of each product. Kratom is more available than akuamma. We hope that we’ve provided some clarity to the akuamma vs. kratom debate.
