How to Make Kratom Tea: Methods, Tips & Recipes

How to Make Kratom Tea

There’s nothing quite like a cup of tea to soothe the soul. And when kratom is added to the mix, the soothing (or stimulating) effects are even more significant.

Kratom is an herbal remedy from Southeast Asia that is often used to enhance energy and focus or treat pain and act as a sedative.

Kratom leaves are harvested from the Mitragyna Speciosa tree, part of the coffee family. The effect you feel depends on the type and amount you take.

Kratom has two alkaloids, 7-a-hydro mitragynine and mitragynine, responsible for its effect on the body and mind. Kratom can be taken as a powder, capsule, extract, or brewed in tea. Locals in Southeast Asia often chew the leaves of the kratom tree.

Although kratom tea is referred to as “tea,” most people use the powder to make it rather than the leaves because the powder is more readily available. We don’t recommend using kratom extract to make tea as the hot water destroys it, and it’s also harder to predict the strength.

There are various ways to make kratom tea.

In this article, you will learn:

How to make Kratom tea in a pot

To make one cup of kratom tea, you will need the following:

– A pot

– A whisk

– 1 cup of water

– Kratom powder

– A strainer or filter

– A sweetener of your choice: honey, maple syrup, sugar, a sugar substitute like xylitol, etc.

Method:

1. Bring water to just under boiling.

2. Add a dose of Kratom powder.

3. Whisk well until all the powder is mixed in and there are no clumps.

4. Allow it to steep on low heat for 15 minutes.

5. Place the filter or strainer over your cup and pour the solution.

6. Add a sweetener of choice.

How to make Kratom tea in a cup

If you’re in a hurry, you can make your tea directly in a cup.

Method:

1. Pour hot (not boiling) water into a cup.

2. Add your dosage of Kratom powder.

3. Stir very well and leave to steep.

4. Once the sediment has settled at the bottom of the cup, you can enjoy your cup of tea.

How to make kratom tea in a coffee maker

You can also prepare your tea in your coffeemaker or French press just like you would make your coffee. Instead of coffee powder or granules, use Kratom powder. Use one cup of water and the Kratom dosage that is right for you. If you are making more than one cup, increase the dosage accordingly.

How to make kratom tea in the sun (called Sun Tea)

Sun Tea is a milder version of Kratom tea.

To make Sun Tea, you will need the following:

– A glass jar with a lid

– 1 cup of water

– Kratom powder

– A strainer or filter

– A sweetener of your choice: honey, maple syrup, sugar, a sugar substitute like xylitol, etc.

Method:

1. Put two cups of room-temperature water in a glass jar.

2. Add your dosage of Kratom powder.

3. Put the lid on the jar and shake vigorously.

4. Put the jar in direct sunlight for 4-5 hours.

5. Pour through a strainer or filter into your cup and sweeten to taste.

You can also pour this over ice to make iced tea.

How much kratom to use

This varies from person to person. We recommend starting with a small dose (~2g) and then evaluating your feelings.

A rough guide to measuring your dose is one rounded teaspoon = ~2.5-3.5g and one rounded tablespoon = 6-8g. So, it’s a good idea for tea to start with one level tsp per cup of water and adjust accordingly.

It’s better to start with less and increase the dosage to see how your body reacts. The effects will onset in 45 minutes.

Tips for making the best kratom tea

Use hot but not boiling water

Kratom is stable at high temperatures. However, although boiling water does not affect the main two alkaloids in kratom, it can change the other alkaloids present, which might weaken the effect.

Add acid

Some people like to add a squeeze of lemon, lime, or apple cider vinegar to their tea. This boosts its effects by breaking down the kratom cell walls and allowing the body to absorb more of the alkaloids.

Use a sweetener

Kratom powder can be pretty bitter, so adding a sweetener or throwing in a flavored tea bag of your choice might make it more enjoyable. (Learn other ways to Make Kratom Powder Taste Better.)

Dilute it further

You can always add more water if you would like a milder-tasting tea. Just be sure to drink it all to get the desired effects.

The benefits of Kratom tea

Kratom tea has different effects depending on the type of kratom you use. If you want an energy and focus boost, we recommend White Kratom and some types of Green Kratom. If you are looking for soothing effects, we recommend Red Kratom and some types of Green Kratom.
