What Does Kratom Taste Like?

What does kratom taste like – and is there any way to improve the kratom taste so you can stop dreading your next dose? We’ll answer these two questions and many others you may have in this detailed article.

Kratom is an exciting new product that is beginning to attract a significant following. Indeed people are drawn to it for a number of reasons –– from its supposed health and wellness benefits, to its energy-boosting or relaxing side effects.

But what does Kratom taste like? There is one negative to kratom that virtually everyone agrees on: it doesn’t taste great. Indeed, at best, the flavor associated with kratom might be described as “earthy,” “herbal,” or “rustic.”

Some liken it to green tea. Yet, plenty of people plain hate the taste of kratom. With that in mind, today we’ll explain a few ways to take kratom that will mask or alter the flavor so that you can enjoy kratom’s effects without suffering from its taste. First things first – let’s touch on the most traditional ways to consume kratom.

Traditional Ways to Consume Kratom

In years gone by, inhabitants of Southeast Asia first took kratom by chewing on dried leaves from the mitragyna speciosa plant throughout the day. Thankfully, this is no longer the preferred method for kratom consumption.

Kratom Powder

Instead, one of the most common forms of taking kratom is through a very fine powder. Impatient folks tend to favor the “toss-and-wash” method with powder. That is, fill your mouth with some water (or any liquid), hold it in the back of the throat, and pour the powder in gradually as you gargle. Then swallow.

Unfortunately, this tastes pretty bad. As do traditional kratom-based teas. Hot water and kratom powder don’t make a particularly pleasing drink. Still, we definitely wouldn’t recommend taking kratom powder dry.

Kratom Capsules

For people who like trying out kratom, but don’t care for the taste, capsules can provide a viable alternative to powders. Just pop a capsule in and swallow it down like a pill. It’s that simple. At Kingdom Kratom, we offer a wide variety of kratom capsule strains, including red, green, and white varieties of kratom.

Kratom Extract

One of the best ways to try Kratom if you are worried about the taste, or simply don’t like earthy things or taking capsules, is with Kratom Extract! What Does Kratom Taste Like?

Now – with all that said, what does kratom taste like? If you’re a first-time user, you may be a bit worried after hearing friends or other people online discuss the dreaded kratom flavor. And while we’d love to quell your fears and tell you it tastes amazing – that would simply not be true.

The fact of the matter is that kratom doesn’t taste great. We’ve heard it so eloquently referred to as “dirt” or “mulch”. But a bit more specifically, you can expect earthy notes that give way to a bitterness that leaves your mouth puckered up. It’s a sharp taste that cuts through your taste buds and leaves no question about it – you’ve just consumed kratom!

Now – it’s worth noting that these are mainly attributed to kratom powder specifically. Kratom edibles taste amazing – whether you go with our caramel candies or gummy treats. And, our capsules are really easy to get down as well.

But with that said, it’s generally agreed upon that kratom is best consumed in powder form. It’s the most bioavailable form, and is the easiest for your body to digest. And keep in mind – the more unpleasant your kratom tastes, the less it has been altered by the company in question with filler ingredients and other nonsense you don’t want in your system. While it’s not necessarily easy to stomach, just know that any unpleasant kratom tastes are normal!

Nevertheless, you probably want to improve the kratom taste in one way or another. And we have some inspiration for you to do just that below.

Quick Tips for Improving the Kratom Taste

Since kratom tastes very bitter, one of the best ways to improve the flavor of kratom powder is to add elements of acidity to it. For instance, a super easy way to make kratom tea more palatable is to incorporate a healthy lemon squeeze to the mixture.

Yet, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to fruity kratom concoctions. Plenty of people have mixed kratom powder into non-alcoholic cocktails that include mango, peach, or orange juice. Ingenuitive mixologists may even try and add kratom powder into milkshakes (chocolate or cocoa are popular), or in a soft substance like applesauce.

The good news is that you don’t need a lot of kratom to feel its effects. Just a few grams and you’ll be on your way! Read our full guide on how to make kratom taste better if you’d like more inspiration on enhancing the kratom taste further.

(One final note: don’t mix kratom with alcohol or other drugs and always use it responsibly.)
