What is Kratom?

Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) is an evergreen tree native to Southeast Asian rainforests and part of the coffee plant family. The farmers in Southeast Asia have become experts in growing and harvesting kratom, and to this day, the highest quality kratom available in the world comes from this region. Harvested kratom has helped farmworkers manage long and arduous work days for centuries. Kratom leaves contain two alkaloids: mitragynine and 7-hydroxymitragynine. Depending on the strain and vein of kratom and the dosage, this botanical can have stimulant effects, calming effects, or relief from discomfort. Traditionally, people chewed kratom leaves or brewed them to make tea. Today, consumers ingest kratom in bulk powder form, convenient capsules, or extracts.

Laws and legislation of kratom in Alaska

Individuals are free to buy, sell or use kratom in Alaska without restrictions.

A bill on the federal level may make state laws redundant or obsolete. The bipartisan, bicameral Protect Access to Kratom Legislation was introduced in the United States Senate by U.S. Senators Mike Lee (R-UT) and Cory Booker (D-NJ) and in the U.S. House of Representatives by Congressmen Mark Pocan (D-WI). S.B.5316 and H.R.9634 would provide federal protections for kratom consumers from contaminated products. It also empowers consumers to make informed choices on kratom products that help their health and well-being.

Where can I buy kratom in Alaska?

Kratom is sold in many head shops, smoke shops, and herbal shops, but many Alaskans prefer to shop from their favorite reputable online retailers. While some like the convenience of local head shops, more and more consumers realize that online retailers are superior for their value, selection, and freshness. Some vendors, like Kingdom Kratom based in San Antonio, Texas, test all their kratom for impurities and potency. Likewise, Kingdom Kratom harvests kratom for strength, maturity, and purity. Maybe you’re unsure where to start. Kingdom Kratom’s sample packs provide a unique introduction to this unique herb.

Kratom advocacy in Alaska

The American Kratom Association (AKA) is a non-profit organization established in 2014. It is committed to preserving and protecting the freedom of kratom. The AKA advocates for regulation to ensure Kratom quality and for research on its benefits. The AKA continues to work tirelessly to make kratom legal in every state. You can help in that effort by joining the AKA as a “protector” of kratom. You’ll receive news of any law changes and advocacy needed. Join the email list here.

The Botanical Education Alliance works with the AKA to raise awareness about safe and therapeutic natural supplements, including kratom. Its goal is to educate consumers, lawmakers, police, and the media to advocate for public policies that protect natural supplements.

More than 20 states are considering the Kratom Consumer Protection Act, which safeguards the interests of kratom consumers. Good news! The Kratom Consumer Protection Act exists in 11 states: Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Virginia, and West Virginia.
